The Aviation Impact Accelerator are proud to support our partners at the Royal Air Force in their new podcast series, Air Power Zero. In today’s episode, AIA researcher Jay Green featured alongside our partners at Boeing in a fascinating discussion of the operational changes the aviation sector needs to reach net zero.

The AIA’s modelling for operational efficiencies includes conventional measures (from aircraft engine efficiency improvements to removing airport inefficiencies) as well as bolder measures (from introducing multi-stock flights to flying the right aircraft for the right emissions).

Addressing both conventional and bolder measures could help accelerate us to a world where fleet and operational efficiencies can account for beyond 30% of our Aviation Decarbonisation Pathway.

We need an approach which doesn’t just look at one part of the aviation sector but the entire aviation ecosystem. Addressing systems-wide efficiency is key to help us go further, by working with stakeholders across the value chains.

Our new 2030 Sustainable Aviation Goals report further explores the role of system efficiencies among other measures in accelerating the world towards net zero aviation.
