We provide independent evidence-based insights that shape the future of aviation.
No single pathway.
Climate-neutral aviation depends on a combination of interconnected factors.
There is no single pathway to climate-neutral aviation. Future outcomes will depend on interconnected factors, where decisions in one area create trade-offs, dependencies and unintended consequences elsewhere. These relationships must therefore be considered through a whole-system approach rather than as isolated technical choices.
Decisions under uncertainty.
Future outcomes are influenced by technology, economics, policy and infrastructure.
Governments, regulators and industry leaders are often required to make long-term decisions despite uncertainty about how technologies, markets and policy environments may evolve.
Understanding the consequences of those decisions before they are made is increasingly important.
We work with stakeholders across academia, industry and government to ensure that evidence and analysis can inform real-world decisions.
Our work draws upon the University of Cambridge‘s academic expertise and research rigour, together with the engineering capabilities of the Whittle Laboratory and the sustainability and policy expertise of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL).
By combining this expertise with whole-system modelling, the AIA helps stakeholders understand how technology, fuels, infrastructure, economics and policy interact across the aviation system.
