COP28

Aviation Impact Accelerator at COP28

In December 2023, the UAE will be hosting the 28th annual session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention, or “COP28”, in Dubai, with a view to building on previous successes and paving the way for future ambition.

At the summit, delegates including heads of state, climate experts and negotiators will come together to agree coordinated action to tackle climate change – key negotiations will focus on building momentum on the progress made at COP27. As well as the negotiations, there will also be space for countries, international organisations, business and other delegates to showcase climate action, highlight diverse climate change issues and share knowledge.

Aviation is a truly international sector and only through global collaboration between policymakers, industry and consumers will the sector be able to reach net zero.

The Aviation Impact Accelerator’s (AIA) mission is to accelerate the journey to sustainable aviation by developing evidence-based tools and insight that support decision makers to map, understand, and embark on the pathways towards sustainable flight.

The AIA will be at COP28 in Dubai to drive forward action in the journey to sustainable aviation. Through close engagement with key stakeholders from academia, industry and government, we have identified four areas of opportunity that can speed up the efforts towards net-zero aviation. These are: (i) Scaling truly sustainable SAFs, (ii) Operation blue skies, (iii) Shifting the business model of aviation and (iv) Unlocking hydrogen transformation.

The AIA will run and participate in a range of events which are focused on the aviation sector transition and these four areas of opportunity.
